Surrealism-Salvador Dali

Amulet

In CyberARTS we made amulets with a guest artist, I chose to use an earth and drama masks.
First we did a sketch of what we thought the amulet would look like in the end, then we did a plasticine model of them, finally we carved out the cuddle bone and poured the metal into it. After filing and polishing, we came out with the finished product.

Chess Piece

Imagine this, you’re sitting at your computer, on a word document, and well…you have nothing written down. Well basically, that’s how I manage to come up with great openings, but this time it didn’t really work out as well as I hoped. I am now going to touch upon on my above chess piece. Enjoy ☺
For this assignment, we were to create a chess piece that looked as life like as possible, really looking at the little details and finding the light patterns. The shading was to be exact and precise. Once we were done with that, the background was a matter of pattern, rhythm and balance with line.
First, I’ll start with the chess piece. I think that my pawn came out as an acceptable piece. I looked carefully at the lighting patterns and I think that the shading was quite close to the original. If there was one thing that I would change it would be the way the pawn doesn’t look angled correctly. I would change this because it makes the piece look much more unrealistic and therefore it isn’t as extraordinary as it can be.
In the background I thought that these lines were appropriate with the pawn. Although when played correctly, the pawn can be a strong player, I think the way most people look at it, it is weaker and therefore shouldn’t be resembled as a strong, authoritative piece. This background shows that it is important (by how it pops) but that at the same time it is still looked down on (there is no real story in the background about the pawn).
I created balance in the backdrop by using darker lines for the circles on the top left part of the page and using more of a grey for the lines on the centre/bottom right side, where the chess piece is. I think that the use of repeating different types of line created an interesting pattern; it wasn’t too much to take the critique’s eyes away from the actual chess piece. If there was one thing I would change it would be to make more of a story using the background. I feel that I had the potential to make this project much more intricate and appealing.
Ultimately, I think that this piece worked out very well in the end. I like the way I used the black line through the middle to create rhythm, balance and separation. Now I thought about a creative ending as well, but nothing comes to mind, so I hope you liked my chess piece. ☺

Picnik

http://www.picnik.com/app#/home/welcome

Picnik is another photo sharing site that I have found. I think that it is very useful because you can personally edit your pictures and make cool collages and save them as j peg's to use whenever. It is also great because you can connect to other websites and get your pictures right off of them (e.g. Flickr, Facebook, etc.) I think that it can be used for certain things that you cannot do on Flickr or VuVox, but at the same time Flickr and VuVox are better for slide shows, so I think that I like all of the websites. As far as recommending goes, I would recommend Flickr or VuVox more for having a journalism aspect, but more for editig photos into a collage, I would recommend Picnik.

Kassy's and Jessica's Compostition in Photography Assignment.

For our composition in photography assignment, our compositional elements were Camera Angle and Light&Shadow.

Camera Angle
When using a camera and trying to get a professional looking photo as possible, a key aspect is the use of the way the camera is positioned. This is called the Camera Angle. For example, if you want a person to look more intimidating, you would not shoot from a higher angle, looking down. You would most likely have a closer growing view of the person.

In this photo, the camera angle is very effective in trying to make this statue more intimidating (Low Angle).

In this photograph, the angle is directly center, showing more detail and giving off a more straight forward view of this photo (close up).

Light and Shadow
Another imperative characteristic in photography is the lighting. Without enough light, you won’t be able to see all f the details that you may want to. But if you have too much lighting, the piece will look to blown out. Depending on what mood you want for the picture, the lighting and shadows will contribute greatly.
For example, if you want a scarier photo for a Halloween poster, the lighting needs to be fairly dark in some places but the contrast needs to be higher, giving a more dramatic outcome.

The lighting in this shot is much better for a calming and cooler effect. It has enough lighting to show all the details and the shadows. But at the same time there isn't too much lighting that it's blown out.

Hey Look! I see logos.

For my Logo Design Assignment I decided to do a company that does book design. My company will choose the layout of the pages of the book and the cover of the book according to what we see will suit the book best. The personality of my company is very professional, refined and intelligent. We are reliable and knowledgeable, and we get the work done. Although we are the ones choosing the layout, cover, and such, we still take the book genre into consideration when choosing these. For example, if the book is a romance novel, we will know that it is a Romance novel and what it’s about before designing the book.
For my animal, I decided a Panda Bear works very well. I chose a Panda because it represents knowledge and spirituality. Panda Bears are cute and cuddly but they are still strong both mentally and physically. I thought that a Panda would represent my company well because they show knowledge and it will give the impression that what needs to get done will get done.
My pictorial logo turned out to be very simple but at the same time pleasing to look at. For the colour solution, I chose purple, because purple represents wisdom, which I thought would suit my company. I think that my pictorial is satisfactory, but I don’t think that it is my best logo.
I personally think that the black and white typographic logo works the best because it works well enlarged and shrunken down (e.g. on a business card). Also, it is nifty to look at because of the way the letters are set up. I also just like this one because of the simplicity of it, it isn’t to hard to look at and it’s memorable. If someone looks at it even for a little while and then they see it again somewhere it will be familiar to them.
In the combination logo, I used the same pictorial version, but for the words, I used different lettering. I used more or less the same fonts, but the layout was different. I did this because I thought the original typographic logo mixed with the pictorial logo would be to detailed and it would be difficult to look at, so I had a different layout of the words done. I don’t think that this logo works as well as it could, and if I would change anything it would be changing the way the picture is much bigger than the words, I would change this because when you make it small (e.g. on a business card) the lettering will not show up as it should, so I think that this logo is not as effective as the Pictorial and the Typographic one.
For all of these logos, I tried to represent knowledge and creativity, I did this using the Panda and the different lettering and the way they were set up. I think that the black and white typographic works the best and if I were to choose one for a logo I would choose that one.

The Third Class Carrige by Daumier

For seminar today, Miss took a picture of the charcoal drawing we did of 'The Third Class Carriage" by Daumier. We were told to edit the picture in Photoshop, by making it Greyscale, cropping it, and adjusting the Brightness and Contrast. This is what I have done with the photo.
F[a_, L_, r_, s_, t_] := Table[ {-(r + s*Cos[t])^n*Sin[n*a], (r + s*Cos[t])^n*Cos[n*a]}, {n, 0, L}] V := {{1.45631, 556, .995, .003}, {2.94712, 502, .998, .001}, {4.50891, 485, .9955, .0025}, {4.9367, 630, .997, .002}} Table[ ListAnimate[ Table[ Graphics[ Polygon[ F[Part[Part[V, G], 1], Part[Part[V, G], 2], Part[Part[V, G], 3], Part[Part[V, G], 4], t]], PlotRange -> 1, ImageSize -> 250], {t, 0, 2 Pi, 2 Pi/40}]], {G,1,4,1}
